A female cougar nicknamed Monrovia in the Sierra Madre mountains in Monrovia, California. Unfortunately, Monrovia was found dead. Data from a tracking collar indicated the mountain lion died around 15 August in the mountains above the city of Monrovia. It had been treated and released back into the wild in October 2020 after getting burned in the Bobcat Fire wildfire.

A sanderling covered in oil is treated at the Wildlife & Wetlands Center in Huntington Beach, US. Environmental crews are spreading out across Huntington Beach to clean up the damage from a major oil spill off the Orange County coast that spoiled beaches, killed fish and birds and now threatens local wetlands. The oil slick is believed to have originated from a pipeline leak, pouring 126,000 gallons into the coastal waters and seeping into the Talbert Marsh.

An elk with a car tyre stuck around its neck for two years has been freed in Colorado, US. Wildlife officers first spotted the elk in July 2019 but have only just been able to catch the elk and remove the tyre.

A kea at Fox Glacier township, South Island. New Zealand plans to reduce lead poisoning among keas, the world’s only alpine parrot and a native species endemic in New Zealand. Lead fixtures on old buildings such as huts and mines are causing dangerous levels of lead in the birds. The government is allocating money to remove lead from private dwellings and replacing it with non-toxic alternatives.
